Consultancy for sustainability

with the German Federal Association for Sustainability

For companies, organisations and public administration

Remaining fit for the future

The advisory approach of the German Federal Association for Sustainability is initially based on a stocktaking and the creation of a common understanding:

  • What does sustainability mean in general and in relation to you as a company, organisation or public administration?
  • What are your specific goals in terms of sustainability?
  • What vision do you associate with the concept of sustainability in relation to your strategic orientation?

This clarification puts the German Federal Association for Sustainability in a position to provide you with profound, partnership-based, qualitative, targeted and, in particular, holistic advice. A transformation process based on this includes the sub-steps of analysis, conceptualisation, planning, implementation, evaluation and certification.

Important: Strategy development and implementation processes are complex. Therefore, do not expect this to happen “on the fly” and immediately lead to outstanding results – e.g. due to the requirements of the higher-level supply chain. Please understand that any omissions of the past 10 years cannot be corrected within 4 weeks.

Our aim is to provide quality consulting and quality process support, culminating in credible certification that is regularly reviewed.

Strategic consulting

Structure instead a quarry

Creating clear guidelines

Sustainability has been the guiding theme of many companies and organisations – including public administration – for a number of years. Over time, this has given rise to various activities and projects that have been developed in different ways and are often just an unstructured collection of topics and measures.

We very often experience a lack of structured implementation and clear guidelines. As a result, own employees or contributors often do not know what exactly is sustainable in their own area.

In the same way, we often experience how, for example, processes and procedures are established in companies and organisations that are sustainable, but are not perceived as such either internally or externally.

Far too often, we see that sustainability is confused with environmental protection measures, which is only one component of it. Climate protection is also often confused with sustainable action.

Flexibility

Remain adaptable

Laws, ordinances, regulations and the reality of life form the framework within which companies, organisations and public administration operate. This is subject to constant change. This not only keeps you up to date, but also ahead of the times. You attract skilled employees by increasing your attractiveness as an employer:

  • Tendering and procurement
Changing habits, not copying the old and the past and being a pioneer.
  • Qualification and awareness-raising
Implementation of training programmes for the advanced and further training of employees in sustainability-related topics. These create an awareness of the importance of sustainability in corporate practice and promote an understanding of the impact of sustainable decisions in professional behaviour. Enable a change of perspective by strengthening professional experience abroad for your trainees and their training staff.
  • Culture of adaptability
Promoting a culture of adaptability in order to be able to react to changing sustainability-related conditions. The establishment of flexible structures and agile processes makes it possible to respond quickly to new requirements.
  • Partnerships and stakeholder engagement
Establishing close partnerships with relevant stakeholders, including suppliers, customers and the region in which you are located. Integrate stakeholder feedback and perspectives into decision-making processes.
  • Technological and social innovations
Implementation of innovative technologies and dynamic technology management, utilisation of new, nature-based materials and raw materials, promotion of research and development services, e.g. in the area of circular economy, implementation of mechanisms for participatory decision-making.

Strengthening resilience

Reducing dependencies and uncertainties

Strengthening the resilience of companies, organisations and public administrations in the context of sustainability requires a holistic approach that touches on the following topics, for example:

  • Risk analysis and management
This primarily involves identifying and assessing sustainability-related risks, such as environmental impacts, social responsibility or legal developments. Strategies must be developed to proactively respond to these risks and minimise potential impacts.
  • Long-term alignment
Is the current business model fit for the future, e.g. with regard to the endeavours to transform the previous linear economy into a so-called “circular economy“, i.e. a cycle-oriented value creation? Long-term and systemic thinking in combination with sustainable business models and the reduction of dependencies guarantee future success and resilience in the face of multiple crises.
  • Integrated sustainability strategy
The implementation of a clear and integrated sustainability strategy that takes into account environmental aspects, social responsibility and economic concerns reduces uncertainties and provides orientation. Such a strategy must be reflected in the corporate culture and long-term goals.
