On behalf of the German Development Bank KfW, BVNG’s Director for Research & Innovation leads a research group to examine the situation of the Baka people an indigenous group who lives in and with nature for thousands of years in the Central African rainforest.
Survival international came up with the information that Baka people were → subject to mistreatment and abuse by park rangers in the Lobéké National Park with the allegation that Baka, hunting for their needs, are poaching the wildlife in the park and therefore have to be removed from the park to protect nature.
The park was created in 1999 by the Ministry of Forest and Fauna (MINFOF) with co-management model with WWF. WWF supports and co-manages the park with funding and technical needs with the MINFOF conservator.
The study seeks to identify concrete options to balance social and ecological needs of the park and fringe communities.
